The Cost of Silver has had a
Real Impact on the Jewelry Business.
When I started Broadus Crafts the price of silver was around $25.00 per ounce, today it is $100 per ounce and slated to rise even higher. So to replace any of my inventory or create new pieces I must pay about 4 times as much for the raw materials. As much as I hate to do this I am forced to increase the cost of my existing pieces to stay in business. For comparison, the bracelet cuff that I wear everyday, was initially retailed at $325.00, using the same costing structure it would now retail at $995.00. This reflects the rising cost of silver and I expect the cost of silver to do nothing but increase in the future.
In hopes of retaining my customer base, I am going to delay any price increase for one month, but after March 15, there will a significant price increase, maybe not 400% but enough to cover material and labor costs.
Remember that what you are buying in handcrafted jewelry is its uniqueness and expression of both the art and craftmanship of the creator.
